The Beginning of an Artistically Rich Collaboration | GIK and France Muséums
Gelanggang Inovasi & Kreativitas has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with France Muséums on May 6, 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening international collaboration in the fields of culture, museum development, and creative innovation. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing cultural exchange, fostering institutional capacity building, and promoting innovation-driven programs that connect local and global cultural ecosystems. Through this collaboration, both institutions aim to create impactful initiatives that support the growth of museums, creative hubs, and cultural practitioners in Indonesia.
One of the primary focuses of the collaboration is capacity building and professional training. The partnership will facilitate the implementation of Training of Trainers (ToT) programs designed for GIK staff and members of the broader cultural ecosystem. In addition, both parties will jointly develop training modules and e-learning platforms to enhance accessibility and knowledge distribution. Strategic mentoring sessions related to museum management, audience engagement, and cultural programming will also be conducted, alongside workshops dedicated to strengthening the competencies of cultural and museum professionals.
The collaboration further emphasizes international knowledge exchange between Indonesian cultural experts and global museum networks. Through hybrid mentoring programs and advisory sessions, participants will have opportunities to engage directly with professionals from France Muséums. These initiatives are expected to encourage the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices in museum operations, cultural management, and public engagement. The involvement of international experts will also contribute to the development of more adaptive and globally connected cultural programs at GIK.
Beyond education and training, the partnership seeks to support the development of Indonesia’s cultural and creative ecosystem. Both institutions plan to collaborate on innovative programs that integrate arts, culture, and technology while strengthening GIK’s role as a creative hub and center for cultural innovation. The partnership also opens opportunities for organizing international-scale events, exhibitions, and public engagement programs that can increase cultural participation and expand international collaboration networks.
In addition to program development, the MoU includes a commitment to research and field investigation activities related to museums, cultural hubs, and audience experiences. These activities will involve conducting case studies, identifying best practices, and preparing strategic recommendations that can be adapted to the Indonesian context. Through this collaboration, GIK and France Muséums aim to contribute to the sustainable growth of the cultural sector by encouraging innovation, strengthening institutional capacities, and building meaningful international partnerships that benefit both communities and future generations.
This collaboration represents more than a formal partnership between institutions—it symbolizes a shared vision for building a more inclusive, innovative, and globally connected cultural future. By combining GIK UGM’s commitment to creative innovation with France Muséums’ international expertise in museum and cultural development, the partnership is expected to generate long-term impacts for Indonesia’s cultural sector. Through continuous collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the creation of transformative programs, both institutions aspire to empower cultural communities, inspire future generations, and strengthen the role of culture as a bridge for international understanding and sustainable development.
